Vanessa Berlein
Vanessa's work involves an unusual cross section of mediums to convey, in abstraction, the fusion of thought, emotion, and memory in a constant state of transformation. Her mission statement is expressed in the body of her work, which is the exploration of the constant transformation of thought, emotion and memory that takes place within us all. By overstepping the boundaries of formal, recognisable imagery, and concentrating purely on the emotive as expression, the work becomes purely abstract.

The mediums used in the work are largely influenced by the paintings in particular, of the artist Jannis Kounellis (ARTE POVERA MOVEMENT 1960s). He incorporated organic and industrial materials in his work, resulting in poetic confrontation between nature, culture, and fabricated environment. Materials he used included lead, gold, fire, steel, burlap and wood.
